🌿 Mattu Pongal is the third day of the sacred Pongal harvest festival, dedicated to celebrating and thanking our cattle — the cows, bulls, and livestock that support agriculture and rural life. This joyous day honours their contribution to food, farming, and prosperity. 🐄🌾

✨ What Happens:
• Early morning, cattle are bathed, cleaned and beautifully decorated with vibrant flowers, colorful beads, bells, and painted horns — showing respect and gratitude. 🪷🐮 
• Farmers and families offer sweet pongal, sugarcane, bananas, and treats to the animals, symbolising thanksgiving for their hard work. 🍚🍬 
• In many regions, traditional sports like Jallikattu or bull racing reflect cultural pride, strength, and community spirit. 🐂🏃‍♂️

Mattu Pongal falls during Uttarayana, the Sun’s six-month northward journey, beginning when the Sun enters Capricorn (Makara Rashi) at Makar Sankranti — a transition considered highly auspicious in Vedic astrology for growth, vitality, prosperity*, and new beginnings.
